How to get smoke smell out of walls

In previous posts, you learnt how to get rid of smoke smell from furniture. Today we are going to discuss how to get smoke smell out of walls.
We all know that when smoke odour is trapped inside your walls, you have a very bad first impression on your guests. In order to get that pesky odour out of the walls of your house, I am writing a step by step procedure for your convenience.
There are certain things which you need to know before we proceed further.
What is TSP?
TSP stands for trisodium phosphate. It is a Heavy-Duty General Purpose Cleaner that can be found at any hardware store. It is safe for floors, walls, woodwork, finished surfaces etc. It can remove odour as well as stains off your wall which may had been a result of heavy smoking.

How to make a TSP solution?

Firstly mix the TSP with 5 gallons of water at the ratio requested on the outside of the TSP package. Do not overload your bucket. Use another container for plain water. You need to prepare the walls and the area by placing large rags underneath the walls so that the things don’t get messy. This way you can save your valuable baseboard from getting damaged. This is very tiring work, so you will want to choose a five feet section to begin with and then move further in similar segments and working your way till the end.

How to clean walls with TSP?

Begin To Scrub: I recommend wearing gloves as the solution can irritate your skin. You can use a broom to scrub far to reach areas as it will be most effective for tall walls with cathedral ceilings. Take the scrub brush and dip it in the TSP mixture for a few seconds. Then scrub the walls aggressively going from bottom to top. It may appear to be irrational, but the streaking is way less this way due to the chemicals in the solution.

Rinse the Walls: Once done scrubbing one section of the wall, use a sponge mop soaked in clean water and wipe up the scrubbed surfaces of the wall. Rinse and repeat till the complete section is done. Change water if it gets dirty.

Wipe the Baseboard of Excess Water: Once the section is scrubbed and rinsed, try wiping off any excess water off the baseboard. Do that before moving to the next section as you want to minimize the chances of getting your baseboard damaged. Watch your rugs often and wring when needed.

How To Clean Baseboards?

Once you are done with the walls, you can use the same solution to wipe the baseboard. Don’t let your baseboard soaked for too long and wipe it clean with plain water soon after you complete one section of the flooring. This is a good action against saturated tar.
